How to Register as an Organ Donor in India in 5 Minutes

Registering as an organ donor in India takes less time than making a cup of tea. Yet most people who want to donate never do it — because they assume it is complicated, or they keep meaning to do it later.
Here is the exact process. Do it now.
Step 1: Go to the NOTTO website
Visit **notto.abdm.gov.in** — the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation, the official government body that manages organ donation in India.
Alternatively, you can use the **iDonate** mobile app, available on both Android and iOS.
Step 2: Click "Pledge Organ Donation"
On the homepage, find and click the organ donation pledge section. You will be taken to a short registration form.
Step 3: Fill in your details
The form asks for: - Your full name - Date of birth - Gender - Contact number and email - State and city - Which organs and tissues you wish to donate (you can select all, or specific ones)
There is no medical examination required. No fee. No doctor's signature. Just your information.
Step 4: Download your donor card
After submitting, you will receive a digital donor card that you can save on your phone or print. Some people keep a copy in their wallet alongside their Aadhaar card.
Step 5 — the most important one: Tell your family
This is not optional. It is essential.
If your family does not know your wishes, they may decline donation even if you are registered. In India, family consent is required at the time of donation. Your registration expresses your intent — your family carries it through.
Have the conversation. Tell your parents, your partner, your children. Show them your donor card. Explain why you chose to register. It takes five minutes of awkwardness and saves years of someone else's grief.
A note on living donation
You do not have to wait until death to donate. A living person can donate: - One kidney (you can live well with one) - A portion of the liver (which regenerates) - Bone marrow
Living donation requires a medical evaluation and legal process. If you are considering it, speak to a transplant centre or contact us at Ajooni — we can connect you with the right people.
You are now registered. You are one of the rare few who has moved from intention to action. The next step is the conversation with your family.
